Powerplant Racing Developments Ltd., commonly known as Brabham /ˈbræbəm/, was a British sporting car manufacturer and System One racing team. Founded in 1960 through two Australians, driver Jack Brabham and also designer Ron Tauranac, the team won 4 Drivers' and two Constructors' World Championships in its 30-year Solution One history. To meet up with that aim, Brabham and Tauranac build Motor Racing Developments Ltd. (MRD), deliberately avoiding the use of either man's name. The cars were subsequently often known as Brabhams, with type numbers beginning with BT for "Brabham Tauranac".By the 1961 Formula One season, the Lotus and Ferrari squads had developed the mid-engined approach beyond Cooper. Brabham had a weak season, scoring only four points, and-having run his personal private Coopers in non-championship events during 1961-left this company in 1962 to drive for her own team: the Brabham Racing Company, using cars built simply by Motor Racing Developments.
